Mayor Marilyn Strickland Joins U.S. Conference of Mayors Delegation at SXSW

Tacoma, Wash. – Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland is part of a delegation of U.S. mayors from across the country currently in Austin, Texas to participate in South by Southwest (SXSW), a festival featuring the convergence of original music, independent films and emerging technologies. Fostering creative and professional growth alike, the event is the premier destination for discovery and continues to be the launching pad for new creative content.

While at SXSW, mayors will join industry leaders to serve as panelists in several discussions focused on how data and technology can be used to solve local challenges, and advance the quality of life for city and metropolitan area residents. They will also stress their “metro” agenda – The 2016 Mayors’ Compact for a Better America:  A Call to Action – that asks the presidential candidates and Congress to invest in and protect America's cities and metro areas.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is led by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. It is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are nearly 1,400 such cities in the country today, and each city is represented by its chief elected official, the mayor.
