More I-5 ramp closures in Tacoma for HOV construction

Construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation have multiple overnight ramp and lane closures planned for Interstate 5 and 705, and State Routes 167 and 7 during the week of Sept. 22.
During the overnight hours from Monday, Sept. 22 into Tuesday, Sept. 23, the left lane of both northbound and southbound I-5 will be closed between L Street and I-705 in Tacoma. The southbound left lane will close at 8 p.m. on Monday, and re-open at 6 a.m. Tuesday. Meanwhile the northbound left lane will close at 9 p.m. on Monday, and re-open by 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, the SR 167 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed to traffic until 6 a.m. Thursday. The same ramp closure will take place again beginning at 11 p.m. on Thursday night, Sept. 25 and reopen at 6 a.m. Friday.
In addition, the State Route 7/I-705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close at midnight on Thursday and re-open by 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
As a reminder, the A Street on-ramp to northbound I- 705/I- 5 is closed until December. A signed detour is in place for motorists. Also, southbound I-5 between Yakima Street and State Route 16 is reduced from four to three general-purpose lanes around the clock through October. Crews have closed the left lane so the median can be rebuilt to carry traffic through the area during future traffic shifts.
This work is part of the I-5: M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV project.
