Northbound I-5 in Tacoma reduced to one lane Friday night

Nighttime drivers on northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma can anticipate triple-lane closures overnight Friday, Oct. 10.
Crews will begin closing lanes near South 56th Street at 10 p.m. An hour later at 11 p.m., three of the four northbound lanes will be closed. One northbound lane will remain open for traffic.
During the closures, crews will make repairs to a variable message sign. Variable message signs provide drivers with important information such as congestion, incidents, or roadwork.
All northbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11.
Although the work will be done at night when traffic volumes are typically much lowers, drivers could experience brief delays. Drivers may want to consider adding extra time to their schedules and check travel conditions before hitting the road.
