Northbound SR 167 bridge successfully relocated, WSDOT thanks drivers for patience

Following successful resurfacing of the southbound State Route 167 Puyallup River Bridge in Puyallup, crews opened southbound SR 167 reopened to traffic at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, July 13, two hours earlier than scheduled.
The parallel northbound SR 167 Puyallup River Bridge, reopened at 5 a.m. Monday, July 14. In addition, North Levee Road and 4th Street under the Puyallup River Bridges will also reopened that time.
Both bridges had been scheduled to reopen Sunday following relocation of the 1925 northbound steel truss bridge 60 feet east of its original location, and resurfacing of the southbound bridge. The northbound bridge move proved more challenging. A combination of equipment failures, unusually hot weather and a bridge resistant to being freed from its 89-year home required more time than originally planned.
Now that the northbound bridge has been relocated, crews will begin to build a new bridge in its place. Construction of the new bridge is scheduled to be complete by late 2015.
The WSDOT would like to thank the public for altering their travel plans to help reduce congestion in the area during this phase of the project.
