PIE Premieres February 7 on KCTS 9
KCTS 9 launches a new series reflecting life and culture in the Pacific Northwest
SEATTLE—Everyone has an opinion about what makes the Pacific Northwest a unique place to live, and now KCTS 9 will be exploring that terrain in the new local series PIE premiering on Thursday, February 7 at 7:00 pm.
Like its name, the new series will be unexpected and unpredictable. It’s not a cooking show. Historically, every civilization has had their version of pie, and KCTS 9’s PIE is going to feature all the richness and diversity of the talented people and places to be found here in the Northwest. Each episode of PIE will have several segments incorporating art, music, technology, and/or history, in a savory mix of mediums with a sprinkling of the quirkiness that is our heritage on top.
“We’re excited about creating a new series that extends beyond the television screen,” said Maurice “Moss” Bresnahan, President and CEO of KCTS 9. “We’re partnering with a number of Northwest organizations to create something that’s fresh for us and for our viewers. PIE will kick off with a multi-media platform that includes content from our partners, from our viewers, and from everything around that inspires and intrigues us.”
The first episode of PIE includes partnering with KPLU for a live jazz performance by Juan de Marco and the Afro-Cuban All Stars (visiting Seattle to perform at Jazz Alley); “Artifact ID Day,” where curators from the Burke Museum will identify natural history artifacts in the style of a certain well-known PBS program; “Photograph 51,” a new play by Seattle Repertory Theatre; and more. PIE’s lead host will be Bill Radke, the well-known radio personality, author, comedian and columnist.
“When people ask us why the new series is called PIE,” said John Booth, KCTS 9’s Deputy Director of Content, “we already know we have their attention.”
