Point Defiance Visitor's Center Enhances Your Park Experience

Whether you’ve come to Point Defiance Park for decades, or you’re a first time visitor looking for an orientation to the Park's 765-acres of beauty and activities, the Visitor's Center is sure to provide new insight about the park we all love!

Interpretive spaces tell the rich history of this more than century-old jewel. You’ll also discover the extensive recreation opportunities, rare natural areas, and historic sites to help you make the most of your day. In 2012, Metro Parks converted the historic 1898 Point Defiance Lodge to serve as a seasonal Visitor's Center.

After more than a century, Point Defiance Park remains one of the region’s premier and most visited outdoor destinations. Over 3.1 million people travel each year to experience the Park’s old growth forests, lush gardens, scenic views, public beaches, natural hiking trails, and world class attractions.

To help guests become better acquainted with all that the park has to offer, the Visitor’s Center will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm through Labor Day weekend. It will also open on 4th of July and Labor Day. The center will be closed during the Taste of Tacoma, June 28 and 29.

Park guests can tour interpretive exhibits, pick up a park map, talk to knowledgeable Park Ambassadors and get information on special events and recreational opportunities in the park. Books, gifts and refreshments are available for purchase.
