Ramp and lane closures slated for Tacoma-area highways

Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close a number of Tacoma-area freeway ramps and lanes during the week of Sept. 29.
Monday, Sept. 29
• State Route 7/Interstate 705 on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5 will close at 11 p.m.
The on-ramp will reopen at 4 a.m. the following day. Crews will also close the right shoulder of the Pacific Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 at 7 p.m. The shoulder will reopen at 6 a.m. the following day.
• At 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, crews will close the left lane of the northbound I-5 exit to I-705. The lane will reopen at 5 a.m. each following day.
• At 9 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Sept. 29-Oct.1, crews will close the right lane of northbound I-5 between I-705 and the Puyallup River Bridge. The lane will reopen at 5 a.m. each following day.
Wednesday, Oct. 1
• In addition to the above closures, the SR 7/I-705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close at 11 p.m. The on-ramp will reopen at 4 a.m. the following day.
Thursday, Oct. 2
• In addition to the lane closure on the northbound I-5 exit to I-705, crews will close the right lane on northbound I-5 between I-705 and the Puyallup River Bridge from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday, Oct. 3.
Friday, Oct. 3
• The on-ramp from the northbound I-5 collector/distributor (collecting traffic from State Route 16/City Center/South 38th Street) on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close at 12:01 a.m. The on-ramp will reopen at 4 a.m. A signed detour will be provided.
Saturday, Oct. 4
• The northbound I- 5 exit to SR 7 in Tacoma will close at 12:01 a.m. Drivers will follow a signed detour via I-705 and State Route 509/South 21st Street. The exit will remain closed through the weekend and will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6.
The work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled in the event of rain.
This work is part of the I-5: M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV project.
