Rediscover Downtown Tacoma with the Tacoma History Hike

Tacoma, May 14, 2014 –Grab your sneakers, leash up the dog, and strap the kids into their strollers! The Tacoma History Hike is the chance to explore downtown Tacoma as participants collect the answers to historical trivia in a race against time. Held Sunday, June 22, the Tacoma History Hike will actively involve the entire family in learning more about our area.

The Tacoma History Hike begins at the Washington State History Museum and leads hikers to a variety of checkpoints within a 1.5-mile radius, allowing them to walk, run, or bike the course. Each checkpoint provides the answer to a question of Tacoma-related historical trivia. Collect as many as possible in the time allotted, and return to the Museum for music, awards, goody bags, and free admission to the History Museum. It's a fun way to spend the day with family and friends, rain or shine. Hikers can sign up solo or in teams of up to five people. It’s great for families, but also for corporate team building.

“Downtown Tacoma is such a lively and historic place,” explains Laura Berry, Development Director for WSHM. “This History Hike is a fun and active way to engage the public with our great city and support the preservation of history at the same time.”

Participants are encouraged to pre-register and the registration fee includes a free t-shirt. The registration deadline is June 19, but Walk-up Registration is available the day of the event.

Proceeds from the Tacoma History Hike benefit the History Fund, which helps support the works of the Washington State Historical Society in preserving and sharing Washington’s rich artifacts and stories.
