Run, Bike and Run at the D2D Duathlon
Try your hand at an exhilarating multi-sport event kicking off for the first time in Tacoma’s Point Defiance Park!
The Downtown to Defiance short-course duathlon is Sunday, September 28 at 8 am and is sure to give multi-sport enthusiasts or those interested in trying a multi-sport event an exciting experience.
The race begins at Point Defiance Park and takes participants on a 19.5-mile journey through Tacoma where they will run, bike, and run to the finish line.
User-Friendly Multi-Sport Event!
Duathlons are unlike triathlons in that they do not include a swimming leg of the race which can sometimes be problematic in areas with cold water and adverse weather conditions. Because of this, duathlons are a fantastic way for those interested in multi-sport events to get their feet wet without actually having to!
Not a fan of running? No problem! Participants can compete individually or in a team, with one person taking part in the running legs and the other team member completing the bike leg.
The Route
The Downtown to Defiance Duathlon begins with a 2-mile run along the promenade at Owen Beach.
Following the run, participants bike through beautiful Point Defiance Park and along Ruston way to 21st Street Park where they turnaround and head back to Owen Beach.
The stretch to the finish line is another 2-mile run along the promenade. Aid stations throughout the course will provide water and snacks. View Map
Transition Area
The transition area will be located on the lawn at Owen Beach where bicycles will be secured unless participants are using them. Participants are expected to finish the final leg by 11 am which allows 3 hours to complete 19.5 miles. Event staff will wait for everyone to finish. Race divisions are divided into juniors, women, men and relay teams. Relay teams must have two people per team. The top three finishers in each division will receive a medal.
Downtown to Defiance
The D2D Duathlon kicks off in conjunction with the second annual Downtown to Defiance event which celebrates the waterfront trail system connecting Downtown Tacoma to Point Defiance Park.
Downtown to Defiance is a free, non-timed event on September 28 beginning at Point Defiance Park that includes open streets for bicycling, walking and running, a food truck festival and live entertainment. Learn more about Downtown to Defiance at www.DowntownToDefiance.com.
