Sarah Ioannides leads Sounds of the Season with Tacoma Symphony Orchestra

New Symphony Music Director conducts annual holiday concert for first
TACOMA, WA - Music Director Sarah Ioannides leads the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra with special guests from the Tacoma Youth Chorus for Sounds of the Season, the annual collage of seasonal holiday delights on December 6th.
Sounds of the Season will be held in the Pantages Theater at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 6 with special guests from Tacoma Youth Chorus. The program is varied, fun, uplifting, and suitable for all ages-from young children to their parents and grandparents. The program will include beloved favorites like "Carol of the Bells," "Ave Maria," and "Somewhere in my Memory," from Home Alone, among others.
I am delighted to be leading the Orchestra for my first performance of this beloved Tacoma musical tradition, and to be joined by the excellent Tacoma Youth Chorus. This will also mark lyric tenor Ross Hauck's first performance with the Tacoma Symphony, and we are looking forward to introducing this fine singer to our audiences.
- Sarah Ioannides
Ioannides noted that a performance highlight will be the world premiere of Christmas Toons by Tony Di Lorenzo, which features songs from How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Members of the Tacoma Youth Chorus have collaborated on Sounds of the Season in prior years, but this will mark their first time with Music Director Sarah Ioannides. The 25-year old choral arts program for boys and girls, kindergarten through high school, is led by Artistic Director Judith Herrington, who stated:
Tacoma Youth Chorus is looking forward to once again sharing our music with the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra and its audience for the Sounds of the Season! Sarah Ioannides is a remarkable musician and conductor, and I know our singers will be inspired by her artistry and her connection to the music and the musicians. We are excited to share this collaboration!
This festive show also features accomplished tenor vocalist Ross Hauck. Hailed by the Seattle Times as "almost superhuman in musical effect," Hauck maintains a busy concert career often specializing in early music or new compositions, with particular emphasis on sacred repertoire. He is also a cellist and serves as a professor of voice at Seattle University. Hauck is featured on a new CD of Handel's Messiah by the group "Apollo's Fire," released last season.
An undoubted highlight of the concert will be when Tacoma City Council member Ryan Mello makes his conducting debut. Sounds of the Season is a holiday tradition to savor!
