Second Annual Gun SafeT Awareness Week Starts September 21

The Tacoma Gang Reduction Project announced that the second annual Gun SafeT Awareness Week will be Sept. 21-25 at the Sept. 15 City Council Meeting.
The week, which focuses on increasing gun safety awareness about education, storage and surrender will have a special focus this year on the impacts gun possession can have on youth lives.
The week will include the launch of the “Is It Worth It” Panels, which bring together a panel of professionals in the field of criminal justice, legal advocacy, employment and education to talk with youth about the impacts a single gun incident can have on the rest of their lives. The first panel will be held at Remann Hall with youth, which will be followed by a community panel at Mt. Tahoma High School for community youth on Monday, Sept. 28. The panels will continue throughout the year.
The City will also launch a series of public service announcements and will kick off the week on social media with the release of the Gun SafeT Music video “Sometimes.”
The song’s lyrics were created for the City’s Gun SafeT week by local musicians and the video features Tacoma locations. You can watch the video at cityoftacoma.org/gunsafeT.
