Shelter Open House: Love Is As Close As Your Nearest Shelter

Pawsitive Alliance Event Spotlights Washington Animal Shelters

Join the pawty at your own community animal shelter on Saturday, October 4, 2014 during Pawsitive Alliance’s 3rd Annual Statewide Shelter Open House Event!

Pawsitive Alliance is working with animal shelters across the state for this event in order to promote their adoptable pets; thousands of pets will be waiting for their new homes and hoping to meet many prospective families at the Shelter Open House Event.

This unique event spotlights animal shelters across Washington State and the homeless animals in their care. The goal is to help the shelters grow their adopter, donor, and volunteer bases while raising awareness of the good work they do on a daily basis for animals in need!

Who: Thousands of homeless pets meeting prospective families!

When: Saturday, October 4, 2014 (hours vary, check with participating shelters).

Where: Animal shelters across Washington State (click here to see a full list on the event page).

What: 24 Washington State animal shelters will be opening up their doors to host an Open House and bring community members in as honored guests.

Why: Approximately 40,000 to 60,000 kittens, puppies, cats and dogs are euthanized in Washington State each year due to far to many animals and not enough homes. Pawsitive Alliance is working hard to bring awareness of local animal shelters and their homeless animals through the Open House Event. Adoption is key to helping end euthanasia of homeless pets in our state.

The Pawsitive Alliance website, www.pawsitivealliance.org, has a list of the fun activities and special promotions participating shelters have
planned for their Open House events.

In 2013, participating shelters for the 2nd Statewide Shelter Open House Event saw a 60% increase in adoptions during the event and a surge of traffic at their facility during and following the event.

Get on in to your local animal shelter to see the amazing animals they are caring for and learn about the great work the shelter is doing to be a safety net for animals in need in your community!

Animal welfare  organizations participating in this unique and fun event include:

Special thank you to our sponsors! Petco Foundation, Best Friends, Canine Behavior Center, Inc., Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, Denny’s Pet World, Dugan Foundation, Fleabusters and Mudbay
