Some of the World’s Most Distinguished Young Filmmakers Visiting Tacoma’s Grand Cinema August 15-20

Unlike any other film event in the Pacific Northwest, the 25 New Faces of Independent Film mini-festival offers a unique opportunity to screen and discuss trendsetting independent films with some of the industry’s most distinguished young directors, actors and actresses, producers, screenwriters, and cinematographers in Tacoma’s cozy art-house theater.

The New Faces are named each year by the United States leading cinema periodical, Filmmaker Magazine, and inclusion on the list of 25 has become one of the most prestigious honors a young filmmaker can receive.

Located in Downtown Tacoma’s historical theatre district, The Grand Cinema will again host this year’s 25 New Faces honorees August 15-20. Every New Faces honoree will have one of their award winning films screened throughout the week and the filmmakers who attend the event will lead post-film discussions following each of their films.

The Grand Cinema is the South Sound’s non-profit home for independent, foreign and local film. In addition to screening independent, first-run films 365 days per year, The Grand is also the proud host of the Tacoma Film Festival,  Academy Awards Party, Tacoma Film Camp, 72 Hour Film Competition, 25 New Faces of Independent Film and many other film programs and events.

In addition to numerous post-film discussions led by filmmakers in attendance following their films, the week’s event will also include a opening reception with the filmmakers on Friday, August 15th at 9:30pm as well as filmmaker roundtable discussion on Monday, August 18th at 7pm. Both events will be in The Grand Cinema lobby and are free and open to the public. A complete film and discussion schedule will be available beginning on Friday, August 8th.
