Special New Additions to Chihuly Weekend Experience
Dale Chihuly and Seaver Leslie to Collaborate on “Irish Cylinders” with glass drawings by Flora C. Mace
Tacoma, Wash. — On November 2 and 3 visitors to Museum of Glass will have the unique opportunity to witness a historic event as Dale Chihuly and his team are joined by artist Seaver Leslie and glass artist Flora C. Mace in the creation of pieces inspired by the Irish Cylinders, originally created in 1975, during the upcoming two-day Chihuly Weekend Experience.

Opening on October 26, Museum of Glass will be presenting Irish Cylinders by Dale Chihuly and Seaver Leslie with glass drawings by Flora C. Mace – From the George R. Stroemple Collection. Among the earliest series of
Chihuly's oeuvre are the little-known, legendary Irish Cylinders, created in 1975 at the Rhode Island School of Design, begun on St. Patrick's Day and completed over Thanksgiving weekend. The 44 vessels, loosely
categorized as St. Patrick's Day Cylinders, Irish Cylinders and the Ulysses Cylinders, which were inspired by James Joyce’s masterpiece, Ulysses.
About Chihuly
Chihuly is credited with revolutionizing the Studio Glass movement and elevating the perception of the glass medium from the realm of craft to fine art. He is renowned for his ambitious architectural installations around the world, in historic cities, museums and gardens. Chihuly’s work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Corning Museum of Glass. Major exhibitions include Chihuly Over Venice (1995-96), Chihuly in the Light of Jerusalem (1999), Garden Cycle (2001– present), de Young Museum in San Francisco (2008), the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2011), Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond (2012) and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal (2013.)
