Spooktacular Fun After Dark at Point Defiance Park

Unique opportunity to experience Five Mile Drive in the dark!

The Black Cat Fun Run, held Saturday, October 18 at Point Defiance Park, is Tacoma's only fun run held on Five Mile Drive after dark!

This unique chance for family-friendly spookiness is only available once a year during the Black Cat Fun Run, a race that features both 5-mile and 2.5-mile distances and welcome kids, pets and strollers. It’s guaranteed to turn an evening of ghoulish exercise into a howling good time.

The Halloween event’s growing popularity is due in part to the its unique features such as a glowing race course through the woods, a costume contest and the rare chance to get spooked on Five Mile Drive after dark.

Costumes are encouraged—especially glowing, reflective or lighted costumes. Glow sticks, headlamps, flashlights and decorated strollers add to the fun and illuminate the darkness. Volunteers as well as course markers will be aplenty and Wheelmen's bicycle club members will ride the course to help light the way.

Ghouls, goblins and costume-wearing humans with a desire for devilish fun can choose from two routes—5 miles or 2.5 miles. Both courses begin and end near the kiosk at the Pearl Street entrance to Point Defiance Park and both are chip-timed. An aid/water station will be located at the halfway point on the 5 mile course.

The moonlit merriment begins at 6:30 pm, rain or shine.

During the pre-race costume contest participants have an opportunity to show off their creative, spooky, funny and sometimes goofy costumes. Costume contest winners are chosen by the crowd scream-o-meter and receive great prizes!

The finish line party includes music, door prizes, snacks and beverages.

Entry fee includes a t-shirt.

$25 for the 2.5-mile and $30 for the 5-mile.
The price increases by $5 on October 5.

Pre-registration closes Tuesday, October 14 at midnight. Day of race registration is $40.

Volunteers are being recruited for a variety of duties including parking monitor, set-up, take-down, course monitor and registration table. To volunteer visit MetroParksTacoma.org/Race-Crew/.
