SR 7 ramp to I-5 closes tonight for attenuator repairs

From 11 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, to 4 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, construction crews will close the northbound State Route 7 ramp to southbound Interstate 5. During the closure, crews will repair an impact attenuator hit by an errant vehicle.

Impact attenuators are accordion-type structures that absorb energy when struck. Their purpose is to reduce the potential for damage to vehicles and motorists. WSDOT installs permanent impact attenuators in front of fixed structures such as jersey barrier and guardrail, and at gore points. Portable impact attenuators mounted on trucks are also used in moving operations such as striping, short-term highway repairs and highway sweeping activities.
