Tacoma Avenue South Bridge Closure Begins February 23

The City of Tacoma will close the Tacoma Avenue South Bridge (located between Center and Delin streets in Tacoma) beginning Monday, Feb. 23. The bridge will remain closed for approximately 15 months to all vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic with detours in place.

This closure is necessary to reconstruct the bridge deck, guardrails, replace the girders and paint the steel members of the over 80-year-old bridge.

Total project cost is estimated at $12 million and is funded by the Federal Highway Bridge Program, Transportation Improvement Board, and City of Tacoma.
