Crews will restripe lanes and ramps along I-5 in Tacoma as part of theI-5: M Street to Portland Avenue – HOV project.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, the southbound I-5 exit to State Route 7 and Interstate 705 will close, along with the State Route 167 and Portland Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5. All ramps will re-open by 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.

In addition, southbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane from the Puyallup River Bridge to I-705 between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 4 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday night, the left lane of southbound I-5 and the right lane of northbound I-5 will close between Portland Avenue and I-705. At 11 p.m., the SR 7/I-705 on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close. The ramp will re-open by 4 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10. Northbound lanes will reopen an hour later at 5 a.m., while southbound lanes will re-open by 6 a.m.

Last but not least, northbound I-5 will have two lanes closed between M Street and Portland Avenue starting at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10 until 4 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.

As a reminder, the A Street on-ramp to northbound Interstate 705/Interstate 5 is closed until December. A signed detour is in place for motorists. Crews have closed the left lane so the median can be rebuilt to carry traffic through the area during future traffic shifts.
