Tacoma Pride Week Film Series @ The Grand Cinema

The Grand Cinema, in partnership with Tacoma Pride Festival, is proud to be screening three powerful films during Tacoma Pride Week. 

This is the third time the two organizations have collaborated to create a film element of Tacoma Pride Week. This year’s film series features three films from three different continents with antagonists who identify as gay, lesbian, and transgender.

KISS ME tells the story of Mia, an up-and-coming architect about to marry Tim, her business partner. At the engagement party for her also newly-engaged Father, Lasse, she meets Frida, daughter of Lasse’s fiancée, Elisabeth. Mia and Frida exchange many glances, portending mutual attraction. Mia and Frida quickly develop feelings for one another which becoming increasingly urgent, until finally Mia is left to decide whether to suppress her feelings for Frida and go on with her wedding plans or break off her engagement to Tim and pursue a new life with Frida.

MELTING AWAY follows the story of a family drawn into crisis after the parents discover their child is secretly a cross-dresser and kick him out of the house. Years later, when the father is dying of cancer, the mother hires a private detective to track him down. Instead of a “son”, the detective finds a woman who earns her pay dancing at gay cabarets.

Mpowerment Tacoma will host “Sexy Outfit” contest with the winner getting a prize from Tandem Gear

Filmmakers James Franco and Travis Mathews re-imagine the lost 40 minutes from “Cruising” as a starting point to a broader exploration of sexual and creative freedom. This film premiered at Sundance in January.
