Tacoma Community College Breaks Ground on Harned Center for Health Careers
The two year, $39 million LEED Gold project boasts geothermal wells, simulation labs, and space

Dirt will turn and hundreds of guests are expected to be in attendance at the official groundbreaking ceremony for TCC’s new Harned Center for Health Careers, scheduled for 2 p.m., Sept. 6 at the construction site.
As a national leader in human patient simulation, TCC trains area hospital staff and doctors to use this technology.
“TCC is known for the quality of our health care programs,” said TCC President Pamela Transue. “This new facility will allow us to upgrade and expand our offerings, provide more students with outstanding career opportunities in health care, and to respond to critical health care needs in our community.”
The center is named after H.C. “Joe” Harned, a Tacoma-area philanthropist who recently contributed the single largest donation in the college’s history to benefit the new health careers center.
The Sept. 6 date was chosen to coincide with Harned’s 95th birthday. He plans to attend the celebration.
Funded by the Washington State Legislature as part of a bipartisan “Jobs Bill” signed in April of 2012, the $39 million project is expected to take approximately two years to complete. More information about the project can be found on the college website.
