TCC to Offer College’s First Applied Baccalaureate Degree

Health Information Management students will soon be able to obtain a four-year degree at Tacoma Community College.

TCC recently won approval from the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges to offer an Applied Baccalaureate degree in Health Information Management. Pending accreditation approval by the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities, the college will offer its first four-year degree starting Fall 2016. 

“As the medical field rapidly progresses, the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential met by this Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) is expected to become a highly desired credential for employment in the evolving field of applied Health Informatics and Information Management,” said Dr. Tod Treat, TCC’s Executive Vice President for Instruction.

TCC’s Health Information Management BAS will be the first Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) to RHIA progression completion program offered at a community college, and one of a very few offered online anywhere in the country.

After the program launches in Fall 2016, students will be able to obtain a two-year degree, a four-year degree, or both.
