TCC’s Board of Trustees Selects 3 Finalists

The Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees has announced the selection of three finalists for the presidency of TCC.

Finalists (in alphabetical order):

Dr. Leah Bornstein currently serves as the President of Coconino Community College in Arizona. She previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Colorado Mountain College’s, Summit Campus in Colorado. Dr. Bornstein earned an Associates of Arts from Bradford College, a Bachelor of Arts in Human Studies – Medical Psychology from Bradford College, MA, a Masters of Education in Higher Education Administration – Counseling/Student Services from the University of Vermont, VT, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration – Communication/Leadership Studies from the University of Denver in Denver, CO.

Dr. Sheila Ruhland currently serves as President of Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac, WI. She previously served as Vice President of Instruction at Rockingham Community College, NC. She earned an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration from Madison Area Technical College, WI, a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Distributive Education from the University of Wisconsin – Stout, WI, and a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in Continuing and Vocational Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI.

Mr. N. Clark Williams most recently served as the President of Cowley College in Kansas.  Previously, he served as the Vice President of Operations for Blue Mountain Community College in Oregon. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, and a Master of Science in Engineering – Economic Systems from Stanford University, CA.

Each presidential finalist will participate in open public forums as noted below.  TCC invites and encourages everyone to attend the open public forums. These forums are open to faculty, administrators, staff, students and the general public.  There will be a brief introduction of each candidate followed by a question and answer session.  Feedback forms will be given to all who attend and the completed forms will be collected at the end of each forum and given to the Board of Trustees for review.

The search, which began over the summer, yielded a rich pool of candidates from throughout the state, region and nation. TCC began the search for its next leader after longtime president, Dr. Pamela Transue, announced her retirement. Since 1997, Dr. Transue has overseen the largest physical transformation in the history of the college. She will retire at the end of 2014.
