“Tee Time in Tacoma” Exhibit to Open at Tacoma Historical Society

Following a closure for installation from March 22-28, our next exhibit will be “Tee Time in Tacoma”.  It will feature the history of golf as it developed in Tacoma from 1894 to 1945.  Fifty years of some very credible accomplishments and a number of “firsts”.

The Tacoma Country and Golf Club was founded in 1894 as the first Golf Club west of the Mississippi and only the fourth one in the nation.  It was also the site of the first international tournament in North America.

Donors and retailers from Tacoma have contributed to the displays to aid in telling an amazing story.  It’s aimed at people who may not be familiar with the game or its important place in Tacoma sports.

The sponsors of the exhibit are Dr. Jerry Ramsey and Richard Sims who first pitched the idea about a year ago to coincide with the U.S Open Tournament.

The Museum will host a reception on Sunday, March 29 from 2-4 p.m., and a “Grand Opening” on Wednesday, April 1.  Admission is free for all events. The exhibit will run from March 29 through July 2015.
