The Grand Cinema Presents: The 87th Annual Academy Awards Party
The Grand Cinema rolls out the red carpet and invites local community members to participate in an interactive celebration of 2014’s best in film at a live viewing party of the 87th annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 22nd at the Theatre on the Square in Tacoma, WA.
As Pierce County’s only non-profit movie theater, The Grand Cinema holds a tradition of hosting the South Sound’s largest Oscars party, creating access for residents to experience all the glamour and excitement of Hollywood’s biggest night directly from the heart of downtown Tacoma. This celebration provides a venue for people to enjoy a one of a kind party featuring first-class food and drinks from beloved, local restaurants such as Maxwell’s Restaurant + Lounge and Europa Bistro as guests collectively relive highlights from the year’s best in film and acting. By the time of the Oscars ceremony, The Grand Cinema will have screened the majority of last year’s Oscar nominated films (35 of 60), and staff look forward to celebrating these acclaimed films with the community. “In 2014, we had a record breaking year for attendance at The Grand Cinema,” said Executive Director, Philip Cowan. Cowan credits this success to the loyalty of The Grand’s patrons and also the exceptional quality of films produced in 2014: “We hope to see the same movies that helped us break our attendance records win in the Oscars.”
The full awards ceremony will be broadcast live on a big screen and free of commercials thanks to an M.C. who will host film trivia and a peoples’ choice costume contest (See Last Year's Photos). One lucky attendee will also win a “Golden Ticket” to The Grand Cinema – good for free movies for a year (for winner only), additional raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the night and guests also support the mission of The Grand by participating in a silent auction.
Doors to the party open at 4:30 p.m. and Oscar coverage begins at 5:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to participate in the film costume contest for a chance to win a $200 value prize or arrive in comfort or style. All are welcome and this year’s party is something not to be missed.
General Admission tickets are $20, and VIP passes priced at $90 include viewing from a private seating area, full dinner, and two complimentary beverages. Discounts are available for Grand Members.
