The Grand Cinema Presents The Annual Film Awards Party
As the South Sound’s home for independent film, The Grand Cinema proudly invites movie lovers to join us for our exclusive Film Awards Party Sunday February 28, 2016 at the Theatre on the Square in Tacoma, WA. Doors to the party open at 4:30 p.m. and Oscar coverage begins at 5:00 p.m. Although we’ll be watching the Oscars on the big screen, this event is not sponsored by or affiliated with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Each year, The Grand Cinema rolls out the red carpet and invites everyone to participate in an interactive celebration of the best in film, and this year we continue the tradition with a live broadcast of the 88th annual Academy Awards presented with hosted entertainment from local personalities and more (watch a recap of last year’s party).
Attendees are highly encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character from one of the 2015 Oscar nominated films for a chance to win a cash prize in the audience choice costume contest (See last year's photos).
Raffle prizes will be awarded throughout the night, and at least one lucky attendee will win a “Golden Ticket” to The Grand Cinema – good for free movies for a year (for winner only). Local restaurants will provide delicious treats for purchase, and enjoy beer and local wine from our no host bar. Guests can further support The Grand’s mission by participating in a silent auction.
“This party gives Western Washingtonians the chance to collectively share in the excitement of the world’s biggest film awards. Last year it was so much fun to see people dressed to the nines and to watch the crowd cheer for the announcement of each winner—the experience of watching the Oscars at a red carpet party with two hundred others really makes you feel connected to this national event on a whole different level,” said Darcy Nelson, Director of Marketing and Communications at The Grand.
In Theatre on the Square’s Studio II, VIP members will enjoy an exclusive Oscars viewing area with a fully catered dinner from our friends at Europa Bistro. VIP guests have full event access and may come and go from their VIP area to the general admission theater to enjoy the costume contest and ceremony moments.
This event has sold out in the past several years, and those who want to attend are encouraged to reserve tickets early. VIP tickets are limited and tend to sell weeks in advance of the general admission section.
Additional details about The Grand’s Film Awards Party will be available in the second week of January when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces this year’s official nominees.
General Admission tickets are $20 and include event entry. VIP tickets are $90 and include viewing from a private seating area, full dinner, and two complimentary beverages. Discounts are available for Grand Members.
