The Grand Cinema’s Annual Academy Awards Party

Hollywood’s Biggest Night Made Even Bigger
The Grand Cinema screened more Oscar nominated films than any other Pierce County theater in 2013, which makes it fitting that the art-house, non-profit theater will again be the host of the region’s largest and most eventful party celebrating the film industry’s biggest night.
The Grand will host their annual Academy Awards Party on Sunday, March 2 at the Broadway Center’s Theatre on the Square where the prestigious awards show will be projected live on a theater-size screen. (Video Invite) (Photos From The 2013 Party)
Guests will root for their favorite films of the year while enjoying the company of hundreds of local film buffs and fabulous food and drinks from some of Tacoma's most beloved restaurants and vendors including Maxwell's Restaurant + Lounge, Cloverleaf Pizza, Corina Bakery, and Wingman Brewers.
The event’s charm and appeal has to do with much more than the projector screen and delicious fare explains Grand Cinema Executive Director Philip Cowan.
“What makes our Academy Awards Party so memorable is that you don’t just watch the broadcast,” says Cowan. “It is an interactive, community event packed full of festivities including a film costume contest, prizes for successful awards predictions, plenty of film trivia, and tons of Grand Cinema giveaways,” he explains.
Ticket buyers will choose between general admission and VIP tickets. The two ticket types offer varying Academy Awards Party experiences.
General admission tickets ($20) include complimentary snacks and a seat in the main theater. “The main theater is the core of the party,” says event organizer Rachel Marecle. “The main theater stage is where our co-hosts will be leading a lot of the film-centric festivities during commercials.” General admission ticket holders have full access to a cash bar and a variety of food booths.
VIP Tickets ($90) include a seat in a private dining and viewing area, a full dinner courtesy of Maxwell's Restaurant + Lounge, two complimentary drinks, and personal table service. “The VIP dining area is for those who want a more lavish, intimate Oscar experience,” explains Marecle. “This section has its own emcee and festivities, but VIP ticket holders also have access to seats in the main theater,” Marecle continued.
