Update on next steps for Point Defiance Master Plan

We’re in the home stretch of a decadelong process to update the Point Defiance Park Master Plan. After dozens of meetings, hundreds of citizen comments, and a lot of planning, staff presented the draft update to the Park Board on Aug. 10.
Staff have adjusted the schedule for the Master Plan Update’s last steps to better align with the City of Tacoma’s technical processes regarding a related Development Regulation Agreement (DRA) and are recommending the Park Board vote be postponed until early November.
Under this revised schedule, the Park Board vote would come after the City completes its State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) process. SEPA is a framework for agencies to consider environmental consequences of proposals, such as the changes proposed in the Point Defiance Master Plan Update.
Here is the latest proposed schedule:
Sept. 21: Public Hearing Notice for SEPA
Oct. 13: Tacoma City Council Public Hearing
Oct. 20: Close of SEPA Public Comment Period on SEPA
Oct. 27: City of Tacoma Economic Development Committee Recommendation
Nov. 9: Second Master Plan Reading and vote by Park Board
Nov. 10: Tacoma City Council first reading of proposed DRA
Nov. 17: Tacoma City Council second reading of proposed DRA
