VeloFemmes presents “How to Buy a Bike You Love”

On Sunday, Nov.10, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. the VeloFemmes bicycling group will host a free class for women who are looking for a bike but are not sure where to start.
Leading with the motto “Tacoma Women. Having Fun. Riding Bikes.”, the group aims to create more of the same with this class held at 2nd Cycle,1312 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.
As cycling tends to be a male-dominated activity in the U.S., and as navigating a bicycle shop can be discouraging to any novice, this event aims to create a safe and comfortable learning space free of intimidation.
Beginners are very, very welcome, and no question is too basic (attendees can even submit queries in a question box at the beginning). Expert panelists will give pointers on bike sizing, what to look for in a used bicycle, and how to communicate with bike shop workers. Attendees will also learn about the many different kinds of bikes and be able to view and test ride a variety of bike types provided by Defiance Bicyces, 2nd Cycle and VeloFemmes.
VeloFemmes began in the spring of 2013 when a group of women came together with the goal of sharing a love of bicycles and inspiring other women to ride bikes. Their hosted events include group rides, conversation nights, and bike mechanics workshops, with plenty more in the works.
