Veterans Appreciation Week at UW Tacoma

As part of the fourth annual Veterans Appreciation Week at the University of Washington, UW Tacoma will host several events honoring and recognizing the substantial contributions veterans make to our community and to our campus.

Nov. 3 - Veterans Appreciation Tribute
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

William W. Philip Hall, UW Tacoma campus

The signature event commemorating Veterans Day on the UW Tacoma campus, this tribute will feature a keynote address by Thomas Kuljam, a performance by Battle Rhythm-the 56th Army Band, a uniform display, a welcome by UW Tacoma’s Student Veteran Organization, distribution of the annual veterans’ pin and socializing with refreshments.

Kuljam is the new director of VIBE, the Veterans Incubator for Better Entrepreneurship. He is a veteran of a 21-year career with the U.S. Air Force, having served as a maintenance technician in the 62nd (active duty) and 446th (reserve) Airlift Wings at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Nov. 4 - Veteran Alumni, Student, Staff and Faculty Reception
5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Lucien Board Room, Garretson-Woodruff-Pratt (GWP), UW Tacoma campus

Veterans with a connection to UW Tacoma come together for an evening of reconnecting and networking.

Nov. 5 - VIBE Open House

12:30 p.m.

Room 307A, Tioga Library (TLB)

VIBE is the Veterans Incubator for Better Entrepreneurship, a service of UW Tacoma to foster entrepreneurship in the veteran community. New VIBE director Thomas Kuljam will share his experiences as an Air Force veteran, a commercial banker and an entrepreneur, and will describe the future development of VIBE. Light refreshments will be served.

Nov. 7 - Tri-campus Veteran Tailgate

1:30 p.m. (kickoff 4:30 p.m.)

Husky Stadium, Seattle, Wash.

The official Student Veteran Organizations from all three UW campuses are hosting a pre-football tailgate party at the game against Utah.

Nov. 11 - UW Veterans’ Day Ceremony

11 a.m.
Medal of Honor Memorial, UW Seattle campus
UW Tacoma Chancellor Mark Pagano and UW Bothell Chancellor Wolf Yeigh are the official hosts of this year’s all-university ceremony honoring men and women for their dedication and service in the U.S. military. The ceremony includes recognition of Col. Margarethe Cammermeyer, the 2015 recipient of the UW Distinguished Alumni Veteran Award, the presentation of the colors and a performance by the Husky Marching Band.

Nov. 12 - 10th Annual Veterans Social

4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
The Swiss Restaurant & Pub
UW Tacoma veteran faculty and staff gather for an informal evening of food and beverages.
