Walk Tacoma Kick-Off this Wednesday

Celebrate National Walking Day with Downtown On the Go and the American Heart Association at the Stadium Walk at Wright Park this Wednesday at noon. The Stadium Walk will kick-off the 2014 Walk Tacoma series sponsored by Franciscan Health System.
The 1.5 mile Stadium Walk, sponsored by the Stadium Business District will begin at the lion sculptures on the south side of Wright Park, and will include a walking tour of historic Wright Park and the National Register-listed Stadium Historic District. The walk will be led by former Tacoma Mayor Bill Baarsma, historic preservation consultant Caroline Swope, and Metro Parks Tacoma Historic and Cultural Asset Manager Melissa McGinnis.
In celebration of National Walking Day, participants will be able to visit booths from 11:30am until noon to learn about healthy lifestyles, healthy commutes, and other walking events, and the first 200 walk participants will receive a swag bag. Also, there will be an appearance by Grover from Sesame Street Live. Walk Tacoma events are free and there is no pre-registration necessary. Check-in at the Downtown On the Go tent to sign-in and receive your swag bag.
Walk Tacoma 2014 is an 8-event walking series held on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from April through August. The themed walks encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors and learn more about Tacoma.
