Wes Knodel Gun Shows 1st gun show operator in WA to conduct background checks on all gun sales

In case you missed it:

Last week, The News Tribune reported that Wes Knodel Gun Shows, Inc., an Oregon company that conducts gun shows in Washington State, has agreed to conduct background checks on all gun sales at the company’s shows at the Tacoma Dome as part of a deal to conduct five shows at the Dome beginning in November 2014.

The Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility is pleased that Wes Knodel Gun Shows, Inc. has agreed to take this important step. This action will help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and other dangerous people while respecting Washingtonians’ Second Amendment rights. We hope that, with the passage of Initiative 594 in November, it will be the case that everyone who buys a gun in our state, whether from licensed dealers or private sellers, at gun shows or online, goes through the same background check.

See The News Tribune’s reporting here, including a copy of Knodel’s press release that includes the following quotes:

“This will be the first Gun Show in the State of Washington to offer a ‘complete per transaction background check on the buyer and the firearm.’”

“To meet the city’s requirement I have hired a federally licensed dealer to conduct the background checks for non-licensed sellers. In a joint effort by the licensed dealer, gun show promoter and the Tacoma Dome facility, background checks will not be charged.”

“The disadvantage will be minor inconvenience keying information and a few minutes for the computers to process the background check.”

“EVERY gun and EVERY buyer is checked for EVERY transaction.” (Emphasis Original)

“The buyer is assured they are not purchasing a stolen gun. The seller is assured they are not illegally selling to an UN-qualified buyer.” (Emphasis Original)

“Federal law prevents record keeping after the transaction for those who are paranoid about lists."
