Wild, Wacky World of Percussion concludes Tacoma Symphony Orchestra's Mini Maestros Family Series

TACOMA, WA - In its second season, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra's Mini Maestros family concert series is set to present its final concert "The Wild, Wacky World of Percussion" on Sunday, April 27th at 2:30pm.  The Tacoma Symphony orchestra partners with Ted Brown Music and the University of Puget Sound to present these performances, which take place in Schneebeck Hall on campus at the University of Puget Sound.  This performance features the percussion family of instruments, including music from The Pink Panther, the story of "Mr. Brown Can Moo," and other works.  Attendees are invited to participate in an instrument petting zoo, an opportunity to hold and try out various instruments, held one hour prior to the concert.  Tickets are $7 for children and $10 for adults and may be purchased by calling 253.591-5894 or visiting www.tacomasymphony.org/index.php/TSOMiniMaestros .

The Mini Maestro family concert series was piloted in 2013 with the help of project partners University of Puget Sound, the Bamford Foundation, Ted Brown Music and the Washington State Arts Commission.  Now in its second season, this series features informal concerts specially created for children ages 2-8 and their grown-ups.  Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, with the full orchestra, opens the series and is then followed by three programs for smaller ensembles -- providing for an interactive, close encounter with the musicians.  With curriculum prepared by Early Childhood Learning experts, the 45-minute informances feature elements to get the children engaged both physically and mentally.

Support for the series is provided by The Bamford Foundation, Washington State Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, Lexus of Tacoma at Fife, Pediatrics Northwest, TAPCO Credit Union, and Lighthouse Christian School.  The media sponsor is Parent Map.
