“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,” - that is all
Dan Rahe, our very good friend, as well as past writer and editor for Exit133, is departing Tacoma in the next month. Before writing for us, Dan was one of the founding Tacoma Runners. Dan has been an active part of the community since leaving this website. He sits on the Landmarks Preservation Commission and Historic Tacoma Board, and helped create Post Defiance.
We dug up the first thing Dan ever officially wrote for Exit133 (not counting his illustrious career as commenter CaptiveYak). Fittingly it is about the absurdity and the value of historic preservation, the Murray Morgan Bridge, and Dan's arrival in Tacoma.
We like the turn of phrase Dan uses to describe the Murray Morgan Bridge:
It watches our tail-lights driving away, and it watches our headlights return.
Dan, as we watch your tailights head south in all too immediate future, here's hoping it's not too long before we see your headlights pointed toward Tacoma again, at least for a visit.
