Tacoma's newest McDonald's will open near new year

Somehow we managed to overlook the ground-breaking for the new McDonald's in the Walmart parking lot in Tacoma. Our bad.

The new McDonald's franchise expects to employ 80 people, and will feature double drive-through lanes. Opening is scheduled for sometime around the new year.

We've heard that a Starbucks drive-through may be in plans for the adjacent property as well.

    I like the McDonald's double drive through concept. That company is so progressive, like Tacoma, that I expect some day McDonald's will add a third drive through lane so people can order a mocha frap from the window of a city bus.

    Best thing about McDonald's drive through lanes? Economic and Social Justice! Everybody has equal access to smooth driving lanes.

    The opening of this new franchise is interesting in many ways beyond the news of local jobs for 80 people. Because what is not readily seen is that this individual franchise is part of a sophisticated business network that employs 1000's of people--suppliers of all types--designers and planners, farmers, ranchers, shippers, communications, uniform apparel, commercial restaurant fixtures, building construction and maintenance companies, on and on. Furthermore, let's consider the two drive through lanes. Consider the not readily seen infrastructure that's required to support the consumers that use the drive lanes--car manufacturers and all the likewise sophisticated technology that supports private transportation, starting with mining and steel companies. Consider, mindfully, how progressive private free enterprise, like McDonald's, can improve the economic and social well-being of everyone.
