The littlest parks could make the biggest civic changes

San Francisco has taken the “Parking Day” concept further, codifying it in the City-sanctioned, City-encouraged “parklet” program .
Sponsoring businesses can spend $20,000 to $30,000 to create a mini public space that change the feel of city streets - that’s a lot of private investment in public spaces.
Some of these parklet projects are pretty inspirational - and the San Francisco Parklet Manual (pdf) is pretty cool read too.
Could a similar program work in Tacoma?
