Asarco Park Development - and A Public Meeting

The News Tribune today is reporting that the private developer behind Point Ruston is offering to build a park and amphitheater on the Metro Parks land along the water.  Metro Parks hopes to develop a park in the space some day, but the offer would make the space usable much sooner.  Of course, there are trade-offs and the devil is in the details.  A public information session is scheduled for Thursday night so we can learn more.

WHAT
Public open house on the Peninsula Park proposal

WHEN
Thursday, August 16th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm

WHERE
Metro Parks headquarters, 4702 S. 19th St., Tacoma

I think this property has been slated for redevelopment for some time now. Wasn’t there an article on it last year?

The property is zoned R-2 so no condos without a rezone.

This is off the subject of the Goldfish, but since we’re in the area, does anyone know what’s slated to happen to the old Defiance Hardware (Defiance Woodcarving) building? I was heartbroken to see it boarded up and the neighboring houses torn down a couple months ago, but every time I drive by, it’s still there. Any hope that they’ll leave it be?

… and no rezoning without a lively Ruston City Council meeting.

    Nice catch Matt.

A small detail: its in the City of Ruston!

    >The property is zoned R-2 so no >condos without a rezone.

Are you still confident with your zoning analysis Jake?

    It is in Tacoma.

  • Matt March 13, 2008

    Jake is correct.

West side or Pearl St is Tacoma and the east side is Ruston.
