City Council Meeting- Apr. 8, 2008
It was a relatively calm and quiet city council meeting this week. Just one person approached the podium during the public comment period. The rest of the agenda was a breeze with little more than a few sentences of discussion.
- The meeting began with a recognition of William Kupinse as our city’s first Poet Laureate. Before receiving his recognition, Mr. Kunpinse read his poem, “Seen Twice” for everybody in chambers – and on TV Tacoma.
- The Council then moved through a series of purchase resolutions. Ammunition for TPD. Uniforms. Asphalt patching materials. Check. Approved. Move on.
- Next, for those historic preservationists out there, we have Resolution No. 37445. Per the recommendation of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the Council designated the Olympic Garage at 1224 Tacoma Avenue South as a historic landmark, and placed said property on the Tacoma Register of Historic Places.
- Finally, as we approach the end of the meeting, the Council approved Resolution No. 37447 thereby adopting the City’s Strategic Plan for 2008-2012. Given all the meetings we’ve sat through as this has been discussed, the final vote seems so anti-climactic.
There were a few other little resolutions, but you can check TV Tacoma if you care. That’s all that we noticed for this week.
So, Mr. R.R. Anderson, you have just one person at the podium. What can you do with that?

Sounds like Whitney is trying to preempt you RR
Preempting? No. Provoking might be a better word.. But not preempting.
By the way – this is Derek. Whitney was in another meeting tonight.

Am I the only person in this City that is bothered by the fact that just one person spoke at the City’s version of “Open Mike”? (I was out of town BTW).
Is the City being run to the satisfaction of EVERY citizen. Are we not concerned that the City wants to add a 5% vehicle tax/surcharge to vehicle registration to fix the potholes that can’t be fixed because they spend the gas tax paving alleys? All joking aside, this is quite sad. Quite sad indeed.

I too would like to see better bio-diversity at the Tacoma City Council meetings.
Unfortunately you’re only allowed to comment on stuff under consideration
by the council during the public comment.
Normally you see better turnouts the first Tuesday of every month when you can talk about anything (at least on paper).
