City Council Meeting- Feb. 19, 2008

Despite being 2 members down, the City Council managed to get stuff done last night.

  • The Council authorized the sale of a surplus parcel of land to Habitat for Humanity at S 11th and Shirley St.
  • Lots of money was doled out to various non-profit organizations in our community. Safe Streets, Boys and Girls Club, Camp Fire USA, and the Hilltop Action Coalition were some of the beneficiaries.
  • The much discussed noise ordinance was enacted with some last minute amendments to better accommodate citizen concerns. Enforcement will begin on April 2, 2008.
  • The BIA was granted another 10 year period of operation.

We missed Councilmembers Talbert and Walker, but things seemed to move right along.

I wrestled away the remote from the kid’s last night and found the council meeting station and watched members getting ready, fussing in their seats, and thought, well, if I can watch the councilors fit their fannies getting ready for the shindig why can’t I have some good music? What was that stuff, porn track audio out takes without the voiceovers? Galactic sound waves? Did Terrible Tom take his boombox home with him?
just wondering . . . .how about a local music shop filling in some low key background . ..for a plug?
(but please, just one song from the Dead Kennedys for Tom’s departure.)
