City Council Meeting - February 10th, 2009
The notes from last night’s City Council meeting were brought to us by Davest, our fine forum moderator and occasional commenter.
PROCLAMATIONS
February 18th, 2009 was designated Bob Evans Day in tribute to his legacy and service. Bob and Susan Evans received proclamation as the Council spoke about his work for Tacoma Public Libraries and Tacoma’s sister city program.
REGULAR AGENDA
Resolution No. 37728 appointed or reappointed individuals to the Foss Waterway Development Authority Board, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and the Planning Commission.
Resolution No. 37729 awarded contracts to Les Russell Construction, LLC, on its bid of $1,323,903.72 for work related to the LID and to L N Curtis & Sons, in the amount of $9,622.08 to increase the contract for protective firefighters’ coats and trousers.
Resolution No. 37730 declared surplus the following nine substation sites, owned by the Department of Public Utilities, ranging from 0.04 to 0.5 acres in size:
- Adams, 1920 Adams Street North;
- Centennial, 543 North Stadium Way;
- Downing, 1801 North Orchard Street;
- Fairmont, 4924 North 31st Street;
- Junett, 3008 North 16th Street;
- Lincoln Park, 1009 South 35th Street;
- Parkland, 101 127th Street East;
- Ruston, 5001 North Visscher Street;
- Warner, 3404 South 45th Street.
Councilmember Fey noted that some of his residents are interested in one of the properties becoming open space. Councilmember Lonergan spoke of the Adams location. Since there is an old building on the site, should the city consider other uses fo the building? It was clarified that this resolution is simply the first step to declare them surplus and there would be other steps in the process when this could be considered.
Resolution No. 37731 supports the creation of Cultural Access Funds, which would increase access to scientific, cultural, artistic, and heritage experiences throughout Washington State and the Puget Sound region.
Resolution No. 37732 authorized the execution of an agreement with David Evans and Associates, Inc., in the amount of $217,841 for design and construction support services to repair two trestles located on the Tacoma Rail Mountain Line. It was pointed out that there was only one applicant for the design as others felt that there was no chance to be competitive since this firm had already won the inspection contract.
FIRST READINGS
Ordinance No. 27786 authorizes the execution of a grant agreement with the State of Washington Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, in the amount of $17,000; accepting, depositing in, and appropriating said sum from the Community and Economic Development Special Revenue Fund, for historic preservation analysis.
We’ll call that good enough for this week. Anything you’d like to add?
