City Council Meeting - February 3rd, 2009
Tonight’s City Council meeting had a rather short agenda. How short? Mayor Baarsma mentioned to the visiting students that this would probably be the shortest meeting of the year. A great time to visit. Nobody stood up for public comment. 25 minutes and done – including February’s Citizens’ Forum. Here’s EVERYTHING:
PROCLAMATION
It is hereby proclaimed that February 6th, 2009 as National Wear Red Day in Tacoma. Wear red to show your support against heart disease.
REGULAR AGENDA
Resolution No. 37727 authorized the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding with Pierce County for the application, equal distribution, and reporting of 2007 federal Justice Assistance Grant funding, and the distribution of $243,940.50 to Pierce County. Pierce County had already apporved the MOU.
FINAL READING OF ORDINANCES
Ordinance No. 27784 amended Chapter 1.12 of the Municipal Code, relating to the Compensation Plan, to implement rates of pay and compensation for 259 budgeted, full-time positions represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 117, General Unit, effective retroactive to January 1, 2008.
CITIZENS’ FORUM
While Citizen Forum had several of the regulars, here’s one tidbit that we pulled from it:
Several students with SAFE Streets spoke to invite the community to a pair of public meetings to discuss drugs, gangs, and violence. The community is invited and welcome. Day care and dinner will be provided.
Thursday, February 5th at 5:30 at Mt. Tahoma High School.
Thusrday, February 12th at 5:30 at Lincoln High School.
We have very few opinions today. You?
