City Council Meeting- Jan. 29, 2008

Tonight’s meeting was all warm and fuzzy, with recognitions and proclamations all around.

  • February is National Heart Month so a proclamation was issued to recognize this event. The campaign “Go Red” for Women’s Heart Health was in attendance to promote February 1 (Friday) as Wear Red Day. Cardiovascular disease is currently the number one killer of women, and the campaign is devoted to raising awareness about the risks.
  • Recognition was also given to a group of professionals from all over the country who have been working in Tacoma on the Safe Return Initiative. The program works to prevent domestic violence by helping men who have been released from prison safely integrate back into their families and the community.

  • Bill Pugh is retiring after 30+ years of service with the City. In his honor, February 1, 2008, is officially William Pugh Day.

  • Resolution 37388 was passed providing money for engineering on the sidewalks of the Broadway LID. This is separate from the portion of work that went out to bid today.

Is that it? Okay…

So, what are you doing for Bill Pugh Day?

Bill Pugh is a good guy. I will celebrate with a nice cold one.

Just give Prium the contract to build the housing. In the time it takes for them to build the housing, the list of felons waiting to come to our fair city should be so backed up that the DoC will have to send them somewhere else. Problem solved.

I know firsthand that Bill Pugh is an awesome guy. I’ll celebrate today by partying with the City employees! Woo hoo!
