City Council Meeting - Jan 6th, 2009
Last night was the first Tacoma City Council meeting of 2009. There was a lot on the agenda and here are a few of the highlights that you may (or may not) care about:
CONSENT AGENDA
Resolution No. 37693 authorized the execution of a supplement and amendment to the interlocal agreement with the Port of Tacoma, in the amount of $11,970,000, budgeted from the Streets Special Revenue Fund, for the rehabilitation of the Hylebos Bridge.
PROCLAMATIONS
January 2009 is declared national mentoring month. The mayor asks that everyone recognize the contribution of the mentors in our community. (Thank you mentors!)
REGULAR AGENDA
Resolution No. 37694 Elected Council Member Julie Anderson as Deputy Mayor for a one-year term through December 31, 2009 (previously on Exit133.
Lauren Walker and Jake Fey presented Anderson with a crown, scepter, and ring. We won’t ask. It was funny.
Resolution No. 37696 declared surplus the Department of Public Utilities’ pole and storage yard facility located on South 74th Street west of South Tacoma Way. The land was originally acquired jointly by Tacoma Power and the City in 1922 for $800. Tacoma Power has not used the site in over 10 years. It is appraised at $45k, but staff wasn’t sure how, or if, the money would be split.
Resolution No. 37707 authorized the execution of a Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiated with the Tacoma Firefighters Union resulting in a 6.2% pay increase. More info here.
And finally, brought for final reading by motion:
Ordinance No. 27778 amended Chapter 12.10 of the Municipal Code, relating to Tacoma Water, to adjust water rates and service fees, effective January 19, 2009. What does it mean? Water rates go up. More info at The News Tribune
That’s all for today. Now, about that crown …
