City Council Meeting - July 8, 2008
Tonight’s meeting was relaxed and full of good wishes.
Appointments
Resolution # 37529 was adopted to appoint Sean Gaffney to the Planning Commission, John Oldham to the Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority, David Nelson to the Public Utility Board, and reappoint Laura Fox to the Public Utility Board.
Council members took turns congratulating these individuals on their appointments and expressed full confidence in everyone’s abilities.
Resolutions
Resolution # 37532 authorized the agreement with Post Advisory Group, LLC, for $1,080,000 budgeted from the Employees Retirement Fund, for investment management services from September 2, 2008 through August 31, 2011.
Resolution # 37533 authorized the agreement with Russell Investments, for $628,000, budgeted from the Employees Retirement Fund, for investment management services from October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2011.
These resolutions were made in hopes of diversifying investments in the Employees Retirement Fund.
Final Reading of Ordinances
Ordinance # 27729 amended Chapter 6A.110 of the Municipal Code to require a vacancy period of at least six months before consideration of an application for the 8-year or 12-year property tax exemption incentive, when existing housing has been rented to residential tenants.
The decision of a six month period was reached in hopes of dissuading property owners from taking advantage of the tax exemption, but not allowing enough time for the property to be vandalized while vacant.
The meeting ended with a few announcements. Councilman Fey mentioned that he and Councilwoman Walker will be attending the Art on the Ave festival this Sunday and will be participants at the dunk tank.
Forget to vote last term? Well, here’s another chance to practice your civic duty:
DUNK A COUNCIL MEMBER
It can be quite satisfying. Plus, it’s for a good cause … we think.

Did The Traveller show up? I heard he was down at Freedom Fair wearing a raincoat (with nothing else) holding a “world masturbation day” sign.
