City Council Meeting- March 18, 2008
Tonight’s meeting was about three important things: money, insurance and basketball.
- The Tacoma Jazz basketball team was in chambers tonight to announce their home opener for the season. It will be on March 30, at Mt Tahoma High School, 5pm. The team is made up of local players and want to be a great example for the community. Their games feature a shorter shot clock, average 130 points per game, and is very fast paced compared to the NBA. They encourage families (12 and under for free!) and love to interact with the kids.
- Citizens were appointed and reappointed to the Board of Ethics, Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities, Tacoma Arts Commission and the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
- The Council executed a bunch of agreements with various contractors and consultants for ongoing projects.
- The Tacoma Dome will be getting new curtains to make the space more attractive to smaller venues. And Councilmember Connie Ladenburg wants the ladies restroom painted.
- The Council voted to give themselves health benefits, as per the recommendation of the independent committee. Only Councilmember Talbert dissented in this vote.
And that’s a wrap.

Will someone please save us from the 1988 retro Neon “art” inside the Tacoma Dome. I hope the new curtains will hide it somehow. Please take them down and save us the pain each time we see them. I think VH-1 “Best of the 80’s” Tv show wants them back.
