David Boe to Run (Away) in 2015

City of Tacoma Deputy Mayor, and former Exit133 contributor, David Boe has decided not to seek a second elected term on the City Council. Unanimously appointed to the At-Large Position No. 7 in January 2010 and elected to a full term in November 2011, Boe is eligible for a second elected term within the parameters of the City Charter's Term Limits; however, he feels that 6 years on the Council has allowed him enough time to provide meaningful contributions to the betterment of Tacoma (Boe also served on both the City's Planning Commission and Arts Commission prior to his appointment to City Council).

As an architect with a Downtown Tacoma architectural practice, Boe has brought Planning and Land Use expertise along with his perspective as the owner of a small business to policy and regulatory issues that have been brought forth for council consideration. Boe intends to fulfill the term the citizens elected him to and will serve in the capacity as Deputy Mayor until December 31, 2015. Upon completion of his elected term, David is looking forward to continuing the discussion of planning issues at the larger county, regional and state levels through his involvement with the University of Washington Urban Studies Program, revisiting his award-winning architectural blog 'Imagine Tacoma' and dedicating more time to his wife Sandra's equine assisted activities and therapies center located in Graham, Washington.

"David brings a thoughtful perspective, sincere compassion and refreshing wit to council proceedings  it has been an honor and joy to serve with him” remarked fellow Councilmember Marty Campbell. "Tacoma is truly a better place because of his work and I wish him nothing but the best for the future."

“I am deeply disappointed that David Boe will not run for a second term and thank him for his many years of public service” said Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland. “Like all of us who serve the council, he loves this city and wants to see it thrive. I look forward to a great 2015 while he serves as Deputy Mayor.”

We will miss David's perspective on the City Council.

Or Derek Young could run, and mess up elections in both the county and the city. A third Derek Young could be found to carry both signs, and demand a runoff.

Sad loss for the City Council. Maybe he could be a consultant for them in the future... Glass half full moment: Did I see something about "Imagine Tacoma" coming back? Excited! David is always full of great ideas.

Considering his "no" vote on a measly 3 days sick leave for Tacoma workers, I'm not saddened by his departure . I now see less chance that my next Tacoma restaurant meal will be sprayed by a sneeze from someone who was forced to choose between paying the rent and feeding his/her family or risking the health of customers.

The City of Tacoma has a tribtrash problem that Boe thinks people need to continually opt out of. Why he places business rights harass above the rights of a citizen to be left unmolested in their home is something Tacoma and the United States can do without. I will miss Boe as much as the garbage The News Tribune litters our city with.
