Highlights from the July 12 Tacoma City Council Meeting

The big news is Eric Anderson’s contract as City Manager will not be renewed. Effective July 15th (this Friday) Ray Arellano, former Deputy City Manager, will take over as Interim City Manager. While praising Anderson for his ability to ‘stabilize the city’s ship’ during a time of disruption, it was generally voiced by Council that a new vision and leadership was needed for the future. The vote to renew his contract was:
Walker:  Pro
Woodards: Against
Boe: Against
Lonergan: Pro
Mello: Against
Campbell: Against
Fey: Against
Strickland: Against
Manthou: Absent

During the Public Comment and Citizens’ Forum section of the meeting several spoke in favor of the Billboard Moratorium and against Digital Billboards including Erik Bjornson, R.R. Anderson and Doug Schafer, among others.  This evening’s attention to the moratorium was for public comment only, no decision was scheduled for the Council at this time.

How many times can Erik B. mention Erik B. in Erik B.‘s comments about Erik B. making a pubic comments and the possibility of getting the name Erik B. mentioned in other blogs and (oh, can he dare dream) in film?

    Just rent a billboard already.

    Heh. “Pubic comments.”

The fight over digital billboards is a national issue. Clear Channel is quite willing to despoil Tacoma on it’s way to make Washington state a less handsome place. Digital billboard pollution is a problem, but Erik B. is not a problem.

Death to Clear Channel! Also, come on Lauren Walker… Don’t be a Joe Lonergan.

Councilmen: What is the mysterious future that you speak of?

Also, if the City Manager has been dismissed for using skill sets that are no longer viable, due to the passage of time, then by what standard do you measure yourselves?

Are you prepared to accept the consequences of your timeworn, relative ideas?

@ Erik B: Don’t listen to that TW character. You are a huge reason the crummy resolution for digital billboards didn’t fly through the approval process. Keep up the good work with your Tacoma patriot friends and most importantly… KEEP UP THE HEAT!!!

Former City Manager Anderson, there’s a new flag flying over City Hall now. You see, you and your way of thinking had to be dismissed. You need to be reeducated in the new way of thinking.

I’m not saying Erik B. shouldn’t fight the good fight against billboards… but you’ve gotta admit he seems to find a way to attach an image of his face on just about everything he does.

The Glory Days of this blog seem behind it.

    Sad.

    Update:

Movie producers from Scenic America arrive to witness anti digital billboard activists and Tacoma’s Central Neighborhood Council board members deliver 1400 anti digital billboard petition signatures to City of Tacoma Clerk. Clear Channel lobbyists nowhere in sight.

I swear on comment 11 the guy on the right is Ketchikan The Animal Man from The J.P. Patches show. Maybe the guy on the left is Gertrude? Just kidding Erik.
