Ibsen Returns to Council Seat

We're not sure what the record is for shortest term served on Tacoma's City Council, but Councilmember Joe Lopez may have a shot at the title for that one.

One month after announcing he would be taking a leave of absence to train with the Marine Corps Reserve, Tacoma City Councilmember Anders Ibsen has announced that he will be returning to his seat representing Council District 1.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday Ibsen announced Tuesday that he would be leaving the Officer Candidates School program due to medical issues.

Hi friends, as you may have heard, I have returned early back to Tacoma. While Marine Officer Candidates School was a truly unforgettable experience, I was sent home for medical reasons. I'm currently sick as a dog, but otherwise will be just fine. Thank you all very much for your kind words of support. I also want to thank my new friend Joe Lopez for working hard to ensure continuity of representation during my absence. According to Council resolution, I will resume my office in exactly two weeks from today. While I am disappointed at not being able to serve my country through the Reserves, I am very much looking forward to taking an active role once more on the municipal issues that we all care about.

According to the TNT Ibsen plans to rejoin the Council for its February 11 meeting.

Welcome back, Anders.
