Murray Morgan Bridge Closures
FYI: Now that the Murray Morgan Bridge is open, there are some closures scheduled.
Beginning at 9:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 21 through 6:00 a.m. next Monday, February 25, the bridge will be closed for work to balance the mechanisms that open and close the bridge for boat traffic. Balancing the lift span of the bridge with the counterweights will allow the machinery to operate as efficiently as possible. Read more on the balancing work from the TNT.
Through this evening the bridge will also be down to one lane while crews finish up work on seismic upgrades, remove platforms, complete details on the bridge operator’s house, and finish striping. And if you’re driving down Dock Street, you’ll notice it’s down to one lane through this Saturday.
TRAFFIC CONTROL/CLOSURES
Week of 2/18/13:Monday, 2/18 -Thursday, 2/21 – 7 AM to 11:59 PM: Murray Morgan Bridge Single Lane Closure – to allow continued seismic bracing work, work platform removal, installation of windows and doors in the operator’s house, and striping if weather permits. Flaggers will be in place to assist with vehicle and pedestrian traffic control.
Tuesday, 2/19 – Saturday, 2/23 – 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM: Dock Street will have a single lane closure while installation of seismic bracing continues. Flaggers will be in place to assist with overall traffic control during the closure.
FULL BRIDGE CLOSURE TO TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIANS
Friday, Feb. 22, 6 AM – Monday, Feb. 25, 6 AM:
During the bridge commissioning period, the contractor discovered an issue that will require closing the bridge completely for a weekend. They will also replace the bearings on the Port approach pier that were delayed as a result of fabrication issues. With two hour notification, the bridge will still be able to open for marine traffic during this time period.
Plan accordingly.

Architectural (gasp) and historical Icon or not, what a terrible waste of money! And during the worst financial crisis of most of our lifetimes! (sigh)
I love Murrey’s books. Just finished “Puget’s Sound.”
Special interests are a forever part of past present and future. A suitable monument.
