New Visitor's Center to Open at Point Defiance

In two weeks, on Friday, May 25, Point Defiance will open its new visitor center in the old Point Defiance Lodge next to the rose garden.

The new visitor’s center will feature information about the park’s features, history, and recreation activities. The center will be staffed for information, and will include exhibits on the park, and the complementary seasonal Point Defiance shuttle will stop there as one of eight stops throughout the park.

The shuttle service is a pilot program to help visitors get around the park without having to drive around looking for parking. Stops will include the visitor’s center at the lodge, the temporary moorage at the marina, the Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, the outer loop of Five Mile Drive, Owen Beach, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.

The grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 26 will give park visitors the chance to see the center with enjoy free guided tours. If you’re already starting to think about your Memorial Day weekend plans, and if those plans don’t involve getting out of town, you may want to consider stopping by Point Defiance to check out the new visitor’s Center.

Summer Hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning May 25
