Tacoma City Business Preview - Week of April 9, 2013
Study Session At this week’s City Council study session, Council will hear an update on the City’s Safe, Clean and Attractive Round Three activities and results. Safe, Clean and Attractive partners the City with community groups to reduce crime rates and do away with debris and other nuisances. The Council will also hear an update on the City’s legislative priorities.
Purchase Resolution
One item on this week’s purchase resolution: $50,000, plus a $10,000 contingency, to BNSF to increase the contract for temporary construction easement, flagging, and inspection services for the Murray Morgan Bridge Rehabilitation Design-Build Project, for a cumulative total of $310,000, budgeted from the Streets Special Revenue Fund. BNSF and the City have an agreement that allows the City to rehabilitate the bridge over the BNSF right-of-way, which makes the City responsible for temporary construction easements, flagging, and inspection costs. The requested modification accounts for additional flagging and inspection costs required to complete the project. Approximately 80% of the additional costs will be covered by the City’s bridge rehabilitation contractor.
Other Items
A pair of items – one resolution and one ordinance – would authorize a collective bargaining agreement with Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, and make related changes to the TMC to implement rates of pay and compensation for 19 TPU Tacoma Rail Division positions through June 2017.
This week we’ll also see a resolution appointing and reappointing individuals to Tacoma’s Citizen Review Panel and Human Rights Commission.
Citizens’ Forum
It’s that time again – this is the week for citizens of Tacoma to share their opinions about matters over which the City of Tacoma has jurisdiction. It doesn’t have to be on the agenda, but it does have to fall under the Council’s purview. What’s on your mind? Now’s your chance to let the council know.
